one year after cruciate surgery

One year ago we were celebrating the fact that Penny had recovered enough from cruciate surgery to walk down a small ramp to the street and sniff around.

How long the recovery seemed to take!

But here we are, twelve months later, having fun once again. For all those people out there whose dogs need surgery, I say, 'There will be light at the end of the tunnel. The time will pass.'

Here's a short clip of Penny running a small agility course yesterday. (And that was after an hour's walk in the country!)

I wouldn't want to see her doing too much of the agility, though. We were told after the surgery she will always have to be careful. Yesterday was the first time she has jumped as high as she does through the tyre. We'll watch her carefully this week to see that she is not limping. And we still do exercises most days to strengthen the muscle in the repaired leg.

I'm finally here! My human is helping me do this comment using her new software that types for her as she speaks, so she can rest her arms from her RSI – it's not bad, huh? But it does still make mistakes and my human has to keep stopping to correct it so it's a bit annoying and very slow – it takes us double the time to do the same thing! So please excuse any funny words or spellings in my comment!

Yay – Penny, you looked awesome in that video! No one could believe what you had to go through a year ago. But I think it's down to your humans' great care of you that you've made such a good recovery. So glad you're able to enjoy yourself now and do everything you love once again.

Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane

Hello Ladies! Sure have missed coming here and Penny's sweet face! Has it been a year already? Time really flies! Yes, it's best to be more careful. Although Happy has recovered but at times when she over exert herself, the leg will go a little stiff. It's hard to keep an eye on her though as she just loves jumping all over and especially on top of furniture.

Thanks, Maggie and Mitch. We checked Penny today and she is still not limping, so here's hoping the small agility run can be a part of our week on a regular basis.

Honey, it's lovely to have you visit, but tell Hsin-Yi to take it easy. She should look after that RSI. The software seems to be good. I think it will get more and more used to her way of speaking, so hopefully there will be less and less strange spellings.

Serndipity, thank goodness for modern veterinary science that makes it possible for our beloved companions to jump around once more.

Great video! You did good on the jumps -- take it easy. Don't do too much too fast!

Lassiter Chase, we will take it easy. I was a bit taken aback when I saw how high she had to jump to go through the tyre. I think we won't do that one next week.
